The University of Khartoum Network was established in 2001 and is the largest educational and research network among educational institutions in Sudan. The university network contains 4,000 computers connected in multiple local area networks (LANs) connected in a fiber optic backbone linked by wide area networks (WANs) between its complexes in Khartoum, Shambat and Omdurman.
